The DJF has always focused on our youth and community members.  We provide youth heart screenings, CPR training, cardiac education.  We strive to make sure that our youth and community members have the best chance at success to then become a healthy successful community unit.

CPR training is also one of our primary goals, providing CPR training to these students and community members will also assist in the cardiac chain of survival.  Across the nation, only 38% of cardiac arrest victims receive bystander CPR, in Contra Costa County the rate is 40%.  Unfortunately for east Contra Costa County, the rate is lower, with less than 20% in some areas.

In communities with successful CPR programs and training, bystander CPR rates are as high as 70%, leading to an increase in the likelihood of survival by more than 50% (American Heart Association, 2015). Providing education and training opportunities to the community increases the likelihood they will respond when called to action.

Cardiac Disease remains the number two cause of death for residents of Contra Costa County.

Outcomes will be measured by 1) Number of people trained in Hands Only CPR 2) Number of DJF educational flyers distributed providing education on cardiac arrest in young athletes Adults and Seniors.

The community will receive the supplies they need to complete the funded year.  Being prepared for a Cardiac Arrest Emergency will increase confidence and set the community members up for a higher probability of success.  Being trained will provide decrease in the stress and burden on family members. This will have a brief impact on happiness and quality of life. Additionally, providing CPR education and training to the students will meet the requirements of AB 1719 preparing them early to meet their graduation requirements.

KCMF, Facebook, Instagram and Constant Contact will be listed as the fiduciary sponsor.  This will be provided on social media, the print advertisement and signs posted at the events.  After the events pictures will be posted on the DJF website as well as a noted thank you to the sponsors.
